National Eisteddfod 2015

Sunday 15 November 2015

Once again Capital Cuisine have provided the only sit down restaurant at the National Eisteddfod, which was this year held at Meifod, just outside Welshpool in mid-Wales. For what is now the 13th year we have provided festival goers with a unique insight into Welsh food and drink though our innovative and comprehensive menu over the 10 day event

The 300+ seat marquee featured the acclaimed ‘Tapas’ counter, hot food counter, cakes and desserts as well as hot and cold drinks and a bespoke bar serving local ales and ‘posh’ pizza! Going back to our roots this year we added a stand-alone coffee shop and takeaway, which proved to be a great success and will definitely be repeated but next time with more deli type items for the real foodies!

Once again we catered for all the hospitality on site, some of which was hosted in our 100 seat hospitality suite whilst others we held on individual stands, quite a logistical challenge delivering food around the site whilst thousands of visitors block your route!

The set up back of house never ceases to amaze all who are allowed back there as our fantastically supportive supplier Castell Howell roll up with a 18 ton refrigerated lorry full of stock for the week, which then serves as one of our 3 or more chill stores. The kitchen is set up as a commercial hotel kitchen complete with cookers, fryers, brat pans and dishwashers as a team of chefs lead by head chef Daniel prepare meals, sandwiches, cakes and desserts for some 2-3000 customers each day. It’s a challenge that’s for sure but it’s what we do best and we love it, apart from packing it all up again at the end!

Next year the Eisteddfod is being held in Abergavenny, the home of foodies galore, so we look forward to the next big challenge and to welcoming you to Pl@iad – Croeso!
